As renovation work continued in Taylor Performing Arts Center this semester, Southern Theatre collaborated with Joplin High School to stage a production of the hit musical “Mamma Mia!”

The musical, which was presented in February, featured a cast that included not only students from Missouri Southern but from the community. Students from Joplin High School assisted with many of the behind-the-scenes and technical elements of the production, which was offered in the JHS performing arts center.

Eric Wolfe, director of the musical and chair of the MSSU Theatre Department, said it’s the type of collaborative effort he’d like to see continue.

“It’s an opportunity to reach out to the community and interact with them,” says Wolfe. “We’re opening our doors to more people and I hope we do it with other shows in the future.”
