The MSSU baseball team was picked to finish sixth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches’ Poll, but the Lions finished just one game out of first place and qualified for the team’s third NCAA Tournament in the past seven seasons.

Head coach Bryce Darnell was named the MIAA Coach of the Year, while junior pitcher Zach Parish, of Tahlequah, Okla., was the MIAA Pitcher of the Year. Freshman Dexter Swims, from St. Louis, was named the MIAA Freshman of the Year.

The Lions had 12 student-athletes named to the All-MIAA team led by three first-team selections in Parish, Swims and senior Freddie Landers, of Grayslake, Ill. Parish was a consensus pick on all three All-American teams, and he and Landers both earned multiple All-Region and All-American Honors.

“We had a season that we are proud of,” said Coach Bryce Darnell. “It was an honor to coach this group and they will always be special to me.”
