Hundreds of area students from fifth grade through high school gathered at Missouri Southern this year for events which showcased their knowledge of history and science.
The Social Sciences Department hosted the annual Region 6 History Day on March 8, while the 30th annual Missouri Southern Regional Science Fair was held March 26.
More than 290 entries were received for History Day, which included papers, websites, exhibits, performances and documentaries. Winners from the contest – one of nine in Missouri – advanced to the National History Day competition on April 27 at the University of Missouri-Columbia. State winners advanced to the national contest, set for June 9-13 in College Park, Md.
The Regional Science Fair featured entries from 82 students in the junior category (grades 5-8) and 11 in the senior category (grades 9-12).
Senior division winners graduating from high school received a scholarship to Missouri Southern, with cash prizes for others, made possible by a variety of sponsors.
