For Spencer Dawson, home this summer – at least for one week in July – will look nothing like his actual residence in Webb City.
Instead, the Missouri Southern junior will spend part of his summer break where what many consider to be the home of English choral music – Oxford University.
The music education major at MSSU was selected to be a part of this year’s Oxford University Choral Singing Summer School. He’ll join 25 other students from across the globe to make up an elite ensemble and participate in the prestigious, one-week program in the UK.
“It’s incredible,” said Dawson. “I hope to learn what inspired those composers and how they wanted their works performed.”
The program at Oxford is a small, selective residential course offered by the university’s Continuing Education department. The ensemble is made up of international students and follows the model of the university’s own college choirs.
