IET Students Put Theory into Practice

  • Industrial Engineering Technology students are getting a chance to apply what they’ve learned in real-life situations.

A number of the courses in the IET department require industry-focused projects, typically geared toward increasing productivity and quality, or reducing cost through management of people, methods and technology. This semester, students have been placed at EaglePicher Technologies, Flexlator, Justin Brands, Able Manufacturing and FAG Bearing-Schaeffler Group.

Having a chance to apply what they’ve learned in real-world settings has a number of advantages, said Dr. Elke Howe, chair of the engineering department.

“Students are able to connect the dots between theory and practice,” she said. “They put their hard skills into action but also experience soft skills like communicating with company employees or working on a team made up of people from different functional areas within a company.”
